An upscale chain restaurant with a contemporary interior and a menu of classic Italian specialities.

I received a telephone call, and it was my partner recommending I keep my Wednesday free as he'd booked us our first post-lockdown meal out to Piccolino's in Mayfair. I was excited and also a little bit nervous, it was definitely time to venture back out. We've actually been here once before, and I tried the whole boneless sea bass, garlic, flat leaf Italian parsley & lemon. It was divine.

Dish no.1 - Crispy fried calamari, garlic aioli & lemon Drinks - Seven Hells Gin & Elderflower tonic, wedge of lime

The verdict: The calamari was crisp and well seasoned, but nothing particularly special. I prefer a more flavorsome coating, and was dissapointing that the sauce was garlic mayonnaise as aioli would of worked better. 3/5

The drinks were slightly bitter as promised, refreshing and extremely moorish. We decided to keep them coming as the meal went on. 5/5

It’s good to note...

If you're sharing starters you may want to order a few as they're quite small portions. But this wasn't an issue for us as our main was so big!

Dish no.2 - Isle of Man scallops, spicy Calabrian sausage & tenderstem broccoli

The verdict: I can't believe I actually went this long without trying scallops! Most of my reviews include seafood in one or more of the dishes, so it might come as a surprise. It was pleasant to see that spicy sausage was an accompaniment to the dish, as it added its own spice, richness, and a slight tang. I really enjoyed the texture of the scallops and they had their own saltiness, it was quite a small portion, but delicious. 4/5

Dish no.3 - Tagliata Di Manzo (800g), Bone in prime rib, (for two to share), porchini mushroom sauce, and zucchine frittes.

The verdict: This dish deserved two pictures. It was an incredibly amount of steak, which luckily I could rely on my partner to finish as I could only eat around 250g (I know, what a poor attempt!). The meat was succulent, but could of done with a bit more seasoning, but luckily the porcini mushroom sauce stepped in here and as it was cooked well, the flavour was there. 4/5

The zucchini fries were excellent! Salty, perfectly peppered and not at all soggy. Some of the best I've had to date, would definitely recommend. 5/5

Unfortunately for us the weather wasn't great so we were off home, feeling joyful and definitely satisfied. Another memorable experience to add to our books. I wonder where we'll end up next?
